  1. A shot under the pier at Whitby which illustrates the strength of
  2. shapes and the rule of thirds for composition.

  4. The figure is placed on the left hand third of the picture. It is
  5. general accepted that, usually, if the main subject is placed on
  6. one of the intersections of a pair of vertical and pair of
  7. horizontal lines equally spaced in the picture area, then it will
  8. look 'right'.

  13. The strong verticals of the pier supports and the curve across
  14. the picture all serve to provide a strong foil to the figure. A
  15. sunny day was, also, a great help.

  17. The camera was a Pentax ME Super with 135 mm. tele lens - a
  18. favorite of mine at one time. I like tele lens and it was very
  19. small and light.
